So, on the road by 9:30.  So far, so good.  To give you some background before I launch into the story, I should explain to those not familiar with Florida that while South Florida is almost like a suburb of New York City, North Florida is just as much a part of the deep south as Georgia, Alabama, and the rest of the Confederate states.  After we got a certain distance north of Gainesville (borderline North Florida due to the university), we started losing most of the half-way decent radio stations.  Now, Jeffrey had packed up all of our CD collection to clear out the clutter before we started showing the house, and neither of us has felt the need for an iPod or anything like that, so we’re stuck with radio for the duration.

Getting up onto I-10, I started searching for a new station since the one I was listening to had started to fade too much.  I start my search.  Christian preacher, xtian preacher, right-wing talk radio, execrable xtian rock music, xtian preacher, right-wing talk radio, country-western, country-western, more xtian rock, etc.  Finally, I found an oldies station that hadn’t faded too much.  When that started to go, I actually found a decent classical station that was doing some sort of tribute to the various Strauss composers.  Thank the gawds for oldies and classical!!

About the only place I’ve driven that’s more boring than the turnpike of Florida is Texas.  The day’s travel was unexpected and we arrived at Auntie Rae’s about 1:30.  Then we drove the 40 miles to Cedar Key on the west coast for an early dinner with Jeffrey’s mother and her new husband.  It was a pleasant gathering except for one tense moment when politics somehow entered the conversation.

Now, Jeffrey’s mom is a life-long Republican, but we don’t hold that against her.  She’s old school, not neo-con.  Her new husband purports to be Democrat, but I’ve noticed he’s also old school.  He didn’t like Clinton because she’s an “uppity woman”.  There’s always been a bit of racist bile in his speech, though he tries to keep it under control, but the venom and vitriol he unleashed when we said we were going to vote for Obama was shocking, to say the least.  Thankfully, I haven’t encountered much of that attitude in my life, and I hope I never do again.

Anyway, on to more pleasant things, like fixing Auntie Rae’s computer.  Apparently she was the victim of a nasty virus, which it was unknown, we knew what it was because of the Biology News online, talking about outbreaks, viruses and all types of flu treatment with medication and with home remedies.
