As mom so pointedly reminded me when we talked last night, I haven’t updated my blog in almost a month.  So, now for the update.

My work has decided to keep me on as a consultant, so I have a job in place as soon as we get to Seattle.  Today we finalized all the paperwork and got everything in place for remote working.

The house is almost completely packed.  We still have the part of the kitchen, part of the bathrooms, breaking down our bed, and the rest of the computer room (or The Command Center, as we call it).  The animals are freaking out–they know something is going on, but not what.  I really hate to put them through the ordeal of a cross-country drive over a week, but they’re young enough that they will get over it.  The dogs will ride with me, and the cat with Jeffrey.

Movers are showing up at 9:00 on Monday (6/30/08), we’ll do some quick cleaning, then head off to sign the closing papers before we head north to Gainesville to see Jeffrey’s mother and our dear adopted Auntie Ray.  (Think Auntie Mame in her elder years and you’ll get the idea.)

Every place we’re staying is supposed to have high speed internet, so I’m going to try to update the blog on a daily basis as we cross the country.  I’ll try to relay my impressions of the countryside, the towns we pass through, the roads, etc.  Once we get to Seattle, we’ll be staying with friends while we find a place to live, and I’ll start working remotely.  More updates then.  If you’re interested in the full itinerary, here it is:
