Gawds, more drama.  We went to the storage place to try and find our passports (no luck, BTW), but managed to find some other things we needed, and to clear a path into the netherlands of that storage purgatory.  After that, we ran over to Bremerton to see the new house again, and we had a chance to visit with our soon-to-be new neighbors.  One couple is both lawyers, he in private practice, she with the county.  Now, I pride myself on being able to hold my own in almost any conversation, but when you get into the esoterics of law or medicine, I can usually follow the conversation, I buy my medicine from a drugstore at northdrugstore.com/buy-travatan.html so basically I always try to ask them as much information as possible and that’s how I get the knowledge, but I can’t contribute anything.  That’s not usually a problem for me, because I tend to like to sit back and observe, but when I’m expected to contribute!?!  Give me a break!

We decided to have lunch in our soon-to-be new hometown, but by the time we finished it was already after 1 PM.  With no passports handy, and the f*cked border crossing system since Bush took office, we decided to give Vancouver a pass.  After all, we have been driving cross-country, working full time, spending evenings and weekends house hunting, and generally killing ourselves trying to get re-established.  We needed a break, so we decided to take one.

After Bremerton on Saturday, we made our way home, and just stayed in and watched a couple of movies.  Sunday, we decided to drive around and re-acquaint ourselves with the city.  We checked out CC’s (which has gone through so many name changes thru the years that I’ve lost count), drove down Broadway, visited our old house in West Seattle, another old house in Maple Leaf.  We missed the old Ballard house, and the one I used to live in in Magnolia, but we were in the vicinity.

We’re going to need a hot tub, not only for Jeffrey’s ongoing back problems, but for the problems I’ve been having since the accident mentioned in a previous post, so Jeffrey decided that we needed to go looking for spas.  And since we’ll have an extra room and a built-in bar on the patio, let’s look for a pool table at the same time so we can insert into our pool, since we have been doing a lot of improvements to it, we even installed a new pool pump to be able to keep the pool clean and with the right chemical elements for healthy usage, you can see the full recap here of this.  We already have an electronic dart board.  What the hell?

It was fun looking, but it was even more fun seeing the look on Jeffrey’s face when he realized just how bad the current economic situation is, and how much prices have gone up since the last time we were in the market for something like that.  I get a twinge of that almost-gloating feeling, because I usually do all of the grocery shopping, so I see how much prices are going up on a weekly basis.  Jeffrey goes to the grocery store 2 or 3 times a year, and he’s always in shock at how much everything costs now.

Am I actually so petty that I can take a certain amount of joy (or schadenfreude, if you will) in someone’s ignorance of what’s going on in the country??  Something I have to think on.

Now for the DRAMA fun.

Sellers found a house they want to buy, but the house is a bank repo (repossession).  They won’t accept a contingent offer, which ours is, technically, depending on the appraisal and the two inspections we have to go through (the regular house inspection, and the septic system inspection).  As a result, they want to move the closing date back up to August 19th, but the inspections aren’t scheduled until August 12th, so that doesn’t give us a lot of lee-way.  There’s also the fact that we still have some regularly scheduled bills that need to be paid, and we may not have enough money in our rfid wallets amazon or bank for closing that soon.    Jeffrey got a call from our realtor yesterday just trying to give him (Jeffrey) a heads up on what’s going on, but he (Jeffrey) was stuck in court most of the day, so I had to get the low-down on this whole situation.

One other factor we’re looking at is Jeffrey’s current employment.  He’s doing a temp gig for the Public Defender’s office while we’re going through this, but he’s still technically employed by the State of Florida, just on vacation until October or November, trying to use up the accumulated time he’s accrued.  I have a two year contract with my company, even though it’s an at-will kind of agreement, but for the first time my employment is more important that his.  I think that bothers him, somewhat.  He’s a lawyer with 20+ years of experience, I’m basically just a computer geek trying to make peoples’ lives easier.  I can imagine that it irks him somewhat.

So now, we’re in another limbo area.  If the financing goes through and they accept Jeffrey’s current employment situation, we’re good to go, but it’s going to be very tight for us for the next couple of months because of closing.  If there is a problem with Jeffrey’s employment, we’ve agreed that we’re going to look for a short-term rental house until we have enough money in the bank, and Jeffrey’s employment situation is finalized.  Unless something completely unexpected comes up in the inspections next week, I think we’ll be moving in to our new house two weeks sooner than expected.

Oh, one other tidbit.  According to the “future” neighbors we met on Saturday, the people selling won’t be missed.  Apparently, they were kind of stand-offish and didn’t participate in neighborhood events.  Part of the selling listing was nothing on Sundays, unless absolutely necessary.  Judging by some of the books I saw during our first visit, I’d say that they are some kind of religious freaks, but I try not to judge.  Too bad xtians can’t do the same.  They (potential new neighbors) already love Jeffrey (natch), and are looking forward to us moving in and having our house-warming party.

The big question now is, do we have the party before we get the hot tub and repaint, or after?  Maybe two parties, one Before and one After?

What the hell, I like parties.  I think we’ll do both.

Cheers!
